The first and most important park in Bangkok is Lumpini Park, often known as Lumphini or Lumpinee. If you’re in Bangkok, you must visit this lovely green lung!
58 hectares make up the sizable Lumphini Park. It has the first dance hall and public library in Bangkok. Suan Luang Rama IX Park and Vachirabenjatas Park are the two largest public parks in Bangkok, respectively (also called Suan Rot Fai). Locals and visitors alike enjoy using Lumpini Park as a running or walking trail, especially on weekends when the park sees an average of 10,000 visitors each day.
If you want some “natural” and solitude, Lumphini Park is an excellent location to go. It is the ideal location for a picnic, relaxing, and people-watching and offers a pleasant and tranquil ambiance. Lumpkin Park is a terrific and well-liked spot to exercise if you’re looking to run, stroll, lift weights, or do some aerobics (free aerobic classes inside the park from around 17:00 until 19:00).
Every time we visit Bangkok, we go to the park to unwind, take a walk, and exercise. It serves as a nice green oasis in the center of a busy metropolis. The origin of the park’s name, Lumpini, is Nepal’s Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha.
Due to the large open area in front of it, where there are also street food vendors selling cool beverages and snacks, you can immediately identify the Lumpini Park main entrance. From around 17:00 to 5:00 pm, the food merchants often set up their booths outside the park. Both the southern and northwestern entrances have these.
Around the park, there are a number of paved pedestrian routes that total around 2.5 kilometers in length. It’s the ideal location for jogging, strolling, biking, and rollerblading. But legally, you may only ride a bike between 10 am and 3 pm/15:00.
Early in the morning or late in the evening, when the sun has set and the weather is not too hot, are the ideal times to visit Lumpini Park. Dogs and smoking are both prohibited in the park.
The park is beautifully landscaped with flowers, trees, and sculptures. It is also quite clean. Around the park, there are benches that are ideal for unwinding, reading, meditating, people-watching, or simply resting and listening to the birds and lizards. The park is a well-known location for birding because it is home to more than 30 different kinds of birds.
Lumpini Park is a great place to enjoy a romantic picnic.
The park also features a variety of structures, including the Home of Hope, a shelter for destitute children, the Bangkok Elder Citizens Club, and the Lumpini Youth Center, which hosts sporting events for kids and teenagers.
Rama VI King Monument
King Rama VI (also known as King Vajiravudh, the sixth king of Siam, reigned from 1910 to 1925), as part of his royal estate, constructed Lumpini Park in the 1920s. The King personally designated it as Bangkok’s first public park in 1925.
Lumphini Park is presently located in the center of Bangkok’s Business District, as opposed to being on the city’s outskirts when it was first built.
At the park’s entrance on the southwest side is a statue of King Rama VI. The monument is frequently adorned with garlands of vibrant orange flowers.
Lake Lumpini Park
A sizable man-made lake may be found right in the centre of the park. A tiny island with seats and walking routes is in the center of the lake. It is a well-liked location for picnicking by the lake or feeding the birds.
Tower Clock at Lumpini
A Chinese-style clocktower can be seen at Lumpini Park’s southeast corner. The clocktower is a lovely location for photos because of how distinctively white it stands out among the park’s lush vegetation.
The clock tower was built in 1925, the same year the park was made accessible to the public, for the Siamrath Phipitthapan Trade Fair. Mario Tamagno, an Italian architect, created it (1877-1941).
The children’s playground at Lumpini Park
In Lumpini Park’s center, there is a playground for kids. The kids will have a blast! Additionally, paddling a swan-shaped paddle boat on the lake with your children is a lot of fun.
Library at Lumpini Park
Bangkok Library Lumpini Park is the city’s first public library, and it is situated there. Even after more than 50 years of operation, the library continues to welcome visitors of all ages, particularly kids.
Swimming Pool & Tennis Court in Lumpini Park
There are two tennis courts, a baseball field, a football field, a gym, and an outdoor pool inside Lumphini Park. Bring a picture ID, such as your passport or driver’s license, and register at the Lumphini Youth Center in order to use any of these amenities.
The membership fee for the Lumpini Park Fitness Center/Lumphini Youth Center, which opened in 2011, is about 40 Baht ($1,20 USD) annually. So that must be the least expensive gym in Bangkok.
